One of the most decorative rugs on the market these days is the contemporary Oushak. The origins of these rugs is from the city of Oushak, a Turkish city around 150 kms from Istanbul. This city has a long history of rug weaving dating back 600 years. The floral and palmette designs of Oushak rugs are now seen in Persian rugs and Afghan chobi pieces.
This is not your typical Oushak or Chobi rug. It is a very unique contemporary piece with a very ‘art noveau’ feel about the design. Typically Oushak rugs are floral in design with an allover design. This piece is more tribal in design with a large central motif.
These rugs are knotted in hand spun and hand dyed wool from the Ghazni mountains just outside Kabul, Afghanistan.
