Beautiful dyes used in rugs from this region. Koliai rugs have a shimmer that can only be appreciated in person.
Iran is mostly populated with people of Persian origin. However, one of the largest minorities are the Kurdish tribes who mainly live in the western parts of the country in the provinces of Kurdestan, Zandjan, and Kermanshah. Kurds are well known as weavers of high quality village rugs and their weaves are known as Koliai rugs. The wool is always high quality with a lovely sheen in older pieces. This is an older piece, with a thick, dense, and very soft pile knotted in the 1970s.
