Description
This famous rug is special in that it is named after a person, not a town or region. Khal Mohammad was a legendary weaver who was said to have perfected the art of red dying. His Ersari Turkmon influenced designs have since become the quintessential red tribal rug that is known and loved the world over.
The centre of Khal Mohammadi rug production is around the Afghan city of Qunduz (Kunduz). The reds used are often rich and vibrant with very dark blues and blacks.
Because they represent such great value for money, Khal Mohammdi rugs have grown to be the most ubiquitous of red rugs among Persian rugs, Turkish rugs, and Oriental rugs.
